Urban Exploration Exploring an Abandoned Pump House ![]() ![]() For several years, I drove past this old building. On the exterior, there's no indication of ownership, the doors are all hanging open, the building is obviously in a state of disrepair, and I had no idea what it was, or what was inside. MR2Junkie and I left work early one day and took a ride up here to check it out. We parked up the road from it, and then walked down -- occasionally hiding on the edge of the straight. While I don't have complete start to finish order for the pictures, nor are all of them "superb quality", I'm sure you'll enjoy it anyway. Keep Out It was quite apparent that when the building was last used (which, from my personal research, was in the 70's) there were a few spots you should stay away from... ![]() ![]() ![]() Despite the many years of the entire building filling up with water, the overhead doors being open to air it out, and plant growth inside, you could still sense a lingering scent of chlorine. Degradation and Disrepair It appears as if salt, chemicals, and water are not conductive to a well-preserved environment. This crane controller shows that quite interestingly: ![]() ![]() ![]() At this point, you cannot fathom the feeling in this place. I could compare it to seeing old torture devices. It was extremely eerie to see a building look like it was quickly evacuated. While some vandals have screwed up the place a little, I was extremely impressed with how well the structure was inside. Big as a Geo Metro, but more powerful ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The building had four of these rather large motors, which I believe drove the main pump of the building. While I'm not exactly sure what the pump house did (there was no evidence of pipes leaving it, although I guess they could actually be underground, and the pipes be under the concrete). Really... It adds force to the water being sent uphill to a large housing district, or factory. Kind of like the transformer stations for electricity. Or it could be pulling water from a well and treating it for consumption, which is far more likely, because of the large amounts of chlorine they used. Nevertheless, a great egg! 5* |
