To utter a posting on Usenet designed to attract predictable responses or flames. Derives from the phrase "trolling for newbies"; which in turn comes from mainstream "trolling";, a style of fishing in which one trails bait through a likely spot hoping for a bite.Although many people troll without actually knowing the term, it is hard to accomplish. A well-constructed post can literally turn a website against eachother. A good troll can cause chaos against the troll himself, but the BEST troll only needs to post once. Example of a troll post: Quote teh1337 on rotteneggs: I hate the xbox 360. Seriously, its laggy, confusing, and the graphics arent even good. You know why they call it an xbox 360? Because when you see it, you turn 360 degrees and walk away With this post, you can generally get at least 3 or 4 morons telling you "OMFG WHAT THE FUCK DUDE, YOU WOULD STILL BE FACING THE XBOX!!!!". You have some-what achieved success. Some tips on trolling: - Grammar and spelling is the most important thing. You must perfect the use of commas, period, capitalization and spelling. If you make a mistake, try to play it off as a troll. I.E Quote you: Learn to fucking spell you idiot. Your the stupidest person ever.- Be a grammar/spelling nazi. Correct EVERY mistake you find. Apostrophes, commas, etc. - DO NOT USE CAPS LOCK, EXCEPT IN A CONDESCENDING MANNER TO MOCK THEIR USE OF CAPS LOCK. - Do not directly insult them or appear angry, as this gives them the impression that they're gaining ground. (Note that a skilled troll can sometimes use this to their advantage with a sort of bait-and-switch maneuver.) - Always use Wikipedia as a source for everything. This is funny because Wikipedia can be edited by anyone. For even more lulz, use LINK - The best troll is a black troll. Black's dont usually exist on the internet, but when they do, its usually hilarious. If you are using this method, take everything as a racist remark, but keep your reply serious and legitimate: Quote: The economy sucks. We were doing better a few years agoQuote you: So youre saying when black people were getting floor-lamps shoved up their asses, we were doing better financially? What kind of bullshit is that?- Break down other peoples responses into quotes, and answer them sentence by sentence. - Use gigantic words that no one will understand. For the full effect, use an online thesaurus. - Use facts to gradually build up a lie. - Make your username something with 1337, leet, etc. Claim to be fairly decent with paint and HTML. - Be teh1337, oh wai-- - When someone calls your posting "trolling", claim that they themselves are trolling, and tell them they should shut the fuck up. - Claim that your post was caused by your T3 internet acting up. And there you have it. With these tips, you can effectively troll any community *coughREcough* |
