Toasty SysOp Level 40 Posts: 7,388 Submissions: 227 ![]() | I've been kicking around a lottery concept for years figured I'd see what people think of it. Please do give suggestions on how to make it fair, etc...As it is these issues that have been holding me back. I have been thinking that to buy tickets, ticket price will be based off of your current points (say a ticket costed 1% of your points, etc) and it would all go into a drawing. You would also have to pick 4 numbers with it, which will decide the winnings. I was considering doing a roll over, where if nobody gets the winning numbers, then the points roll over into next time. There would also be a daily limit...All of this is up to what users think though. Any suggestions? Bad idea? Good idea? |

Toasty SysOp Level 40 Posts: 7,388 Submissions: 227 ![]() | ^Ditto, I was thinking 5%. Only problem I can't figure out is this. Say if you, BBH, and Darkharbinger all bought tickets for 5% (or any number, really), the jackpot would be high as hell. Now say if a new member were to win (level 1, etc)...That would be one hell of a winning for somebody who just started...The opposite is true, if you dump in 5% of your points, and BBH won, well 5% of your points isn't going to be worth it...If you catch my drift. The only thing I can see that would help is if I made a set winning amount, then made it scale to member level from that number. |

The only thing is, I really wanted to set it up as a "weekly drawing", or even a daily drawing...That way members come back to see if they won. Sort of a cliffhanger I guess. |

Toasty SysOp Level 40 Posts: 7,388 Submissions: 227 ![]() | ^See, it's the logistics of it all. I can't seem to figure out a good way to do it. Like the lottery on RE, even if I win the jackpot, the points for one day would cost more than the winnings. |

Coopz Member 'Penis Size: Massive' Level 35 Posts: 2,398 Submissions: 113 ![]() | That sounds cool! It sounds like it might be very hard to win though. If you set your number limit at 20 (ie. people have to pick numbers between 1 and 20), and you pick 4 numbers, you only have an X in 4845 chance of winning, X being the number of tickets you bought. If you drop your number limit to (lucky for some!) 13, then the odds increase to X in 715. So you'd have to be very careful on how you set your number limit. If it seems like I'm good at figuring out odds, I'm not! I used this handy little calculator to do all the figuring. You might find it helpful in figuring out limits and numbers and odds if you do make this. It also has a bit for "extra picks" which I guess is like a "bonus ball" which might be a good idea to have too. Say you choose your initial 4 numbers, and then for your bonus you have to chose a number between 1 and 4. If your 4 numbers come up you get the jackpot, but if you also get the bonus the jackpot you revieve is multiplied by your member level or something. I know for the bonus, a number between 1 and 4 seems like you'd have really good chances, but when you combine the odds of getting your initial 4 numbers with the odds of matching the bonus number, your overall odds of winning are X in 6188. (The calculator figures that out too.) Those odds might still be too high, but if you like the idea you can have a mess about with the calculator and see what you think the numbers should be set to. Another suggestion, could you make it so that we have the option to set up daily plays, so that it buys our tickets automatically each day? Like, if we're allowed 5 tickets per day, we can put in how many tickets we want and the numbers we want for each of them (or select "lucky dip" if we want a randomly generated ticket). |

Coopz Member 'Penis Size: Massive' Level 35 Posts: 2,398 Submissions: 113 ![]() | lol, I missed every singe reply cause I spent so much time thinking about my last post, lol. Maybe you could just multiply the standard jackpot by the persons member level, so that if a high member level pours in a lot of points, it will be worth their while. Though that would still give low level members a huge winning... How about this.... Member level - Winnings 1 - Jackpot / 10 (as long as this doesn't give them less than they put in. 2 - Jackpot / 9 (same as above) 3 - Jackpot / 8 (ditto) until you reach level 10, then you start recieving the full jackpot. That might be a shit idea, I dunno, just throwing it out there. Also, 5% sounds like a lot, if you buy 5 tickets per day, that's 20% of your points gone in one day! |

Toasty SysOp Level 40 Posts: 7,388 Submissions: 227 ![]() | I will look into that calculator. Thanks for the link. That way you can't simply set it up to buy some everyday and comeback in a year with a ton of points, if you get what I mean. Also, as stupid as this may sound -- it is actually a pain in the ass to have the server "automate" tasks (and that's why you don't see FunFactBot posting anymore). I know I can do it, and how to do it -- but I do question if it would be worth it in the long run. |

The ticket buying would probably be a progressive decline on the account. For example: Ticket 1: User has 1,000 points, and buys 1 ticket at 10%: (Ticket costs 100 points, they have 900 left) Ticket 2 User now has 900 points, and buys another ticket at 10%: (Ticket now costs 90 points, and they have 810 left) See how it progressively takes the points, instead of all of them costing 100 points? I know 10% is high, but I can do that math in my head *hopes it's right*). |

Coopz Member 'Penis Size: Massive' Level 35 Posts: 2,398 Submissions: 113 ![]() | ^^lol, me either. I knew it would decrease slightly exponentially as you bought each ticket but I was just doing rough figuring. Fair point on the autoplay thing, if members didnt have to visit to buy their tickets it wouldn't be very fair on the members who were playing who actually visit the site. Maybe it could be set so that it only automatically buys tickets on days when you log in, or if you make a post that day or something. Fair enough if it makes coding too complicated, it's not that big a deal, I was just thinking it would probably get more use and be easier for the users if you could set it to play automatically. If you have to go and enter 5 sets of numbers every day people might not bother, wheras if it was automatic it would probably get a fair bit more usage each day. I just wrote this down to think it through as a way of making sure the jackpot is relevant to the player and how many points they put in, seems like it might work ok, what do you think?: 1 ticket costs 10% of your daily interest points. (Ticket price for members could be calculated at the start of the day, so that tickets don't get cheaper the more you buy, they stay at the same price for that day.) When a ticket is bought, the jackpot increases by 1 "credit" or whatever. If you win, you recieve the jackpot credits X your calculated ticket price for the day you bought the ticket on. If you also get the bonus, your winnings are calculated by your member level. |
