 Toasty SysOp Level 40 Posts: 7,388 Submissions: 227 | If you can't ping sites (try YouN00b, or better yet Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc) then the school probably has the network do what is called "Whitelisting". What whitelisting is: Individual approval of sites, as opposed to blacklisting which is individual denial of sites. |

Toasty SysOp Level 40 Posts: 7,388 Submissions: 227 | Also: If your school doesn't let administrators and teachers access the internet (which would amaze the hell out of me), then maybe your teacher should say something, or perhaps they don't have internet access (which would also amaze the hell out of me). If they DO allow internet for the teachers/admins, then all he is trying to do is get a student to help lock down the sites more, as a matter of fact, he may claim that he found the hole for credit. I suggest you either keep the secret to yourself, or make yourself the "hero" by going directly to the IT department with news of your discovery -- but beware, this method could also get you into trouble if you don't handle it correctly, especially if you go well and beyond what would be easy for an average student. Back in computers, I made a fake login screen -- not to get anybodies ID, but instead so I can go into the classroom, login, and pull up the fake login screen while I go shit/get a drink/etc. This way I can come back and get to doing what I wanted without anybody screwing with my account. The IT admins locked my account citing that it was an attempt to get password, until I pointed out how stupid they are that you couldn't even type in the box -- that it was merely a picture (funny that my calculator program I wrote allowed you to perform shell commands by typing it in the box and pressing the equals button  ) |

It does something really wierd when you try and ping it. It only like half pings it. it recognizes its there. but then says something. I can't remember but it always has 100 percent loss. when you go to a we bsite its like a school board message "youn00b.com classified as: webchat/pornography." NO LIES PORNOGRAPHY |

I'd like to contact the vendor about that. If possible, let me see what it is doing when you ping it (either copy the text down, print it out, or screen shot it) and I'll see if I can reproduce it. |
