May I ask how genetics work really? I don't have a biology class.. I dropped it, shit was hard, well atleast my teacher, we had problems.

I would like to know though...

What is more dominant?
Obese - Lanky
Stocky - Lanky
Muscular - Obese

I've just been really interested in genetics lately.

Thanks you guys.

it's not that simple, many genes and other factors influence the obesity, lanky and muscular thing that you are talking about. ski color is affected by many genes as well as how long you stay in the sun... and then here are codominance and incomplete dominance to worry about

genetics is quite complicated and that is why you need to specify what you want to know about it.

I never had to learn much about genetics, or how they work. I'd imagine that all of the guess work they've done on it about dominance is just that -- guess work. But like I said, I don't know much about it.

Well, I know that much Spaghettifier, but it doesn't answer my question clearly.

They are genes that are clearly more dominant than others, say everybody ate and drank the same stuff, some people will be fatter or thinner.

I just want to know what's more dominant.

I think it depends on your blood line and your family.

Hahahha, MY dad is 5'5 and my mom is 5'7 and I am 6'1. I don't know where genetics come into play here.

But what if one parent is say... VERY muscular, like one of those naturally ripped guys, and the other parent is just one of those people who can not lose weight to save their life.

From what my teachers have told me, it is probably because you have a tall person somewhere in your family tree. I don't know how true that is, but one of my teachers insists that's how that stuff happens.

The reason I'm interested in this is because almost all of my dad's side of the family is short and muscular, real stocky people. But my mom's side is mostly comprised of lanky people (my mom is neither, she's just normal).

I turned out lanky, my brother turned out stocky... my sister turned out just like my mom.

So.. I just find it weird how basically, each kid got there own traits.

^I'd be stocky at my weight if I were short, but I'm not, so I'm lanky. Maybe height is determining the width?

there are multiple genes that control it, there doesn't have to be complete dominance, you could have out of (lets say, i really have no clue) 8 genes that control that (there are more but this is simpler) you could have them in pairs of (L=lanky, S=stocky, M=muscular. for the sake of argument, they are all equally dominant) LS, LL, SL, MS, LL, SL, ML, ML the majority are L so you are lanky. your mother could have a blend of the three with a slightly weighted lanky which would make her tall but not too lanky, then the combination you inherit would determine yours. that is in no way an accurate description of how it works but it is a model that could describe a possibility.

Very well put spaghettifier. Without all the complex scientific mumbo jumbo, I do believe that really is sort of how it works.
As I recall from health class, lol..it is a little like a 'lottery draw', where which genes have sort of been in charge with each contributing parent, compete with newer, unlike traits.
Certain genetic traits will definitely trump others, however, if there's enough of others (combining) teaming up, then lesser-than genes can dominate in some cases. This is precisely why at times, some new dad gives his wife odd looks...where they've just welcomed their newborn blue-eyed baby into the world..yet both mom and dad have brown eyes.
lol.. it is sort of complicated.

there's also the case of genes coming from the mother being different from those coming from the father, even if the genes are exactly the same. One genetic problem, if inherited from the father, causes severe retardation and lots of smiling but if it comes fro the mother, there is slight metal retardation but an uncontrollable desire to eat, so that also changes all of that, even looking at it from a purely genetic point of view, there are a fuckload of factors that have to be taken into consideration, that's what i meant, I am sure that you know that lifestle will affect everything, i was saying that genetics will also have strange crap going on
