Is it just me, or does the new firefox munch up on shit tons of RAM until it has no other option but to forcefully shut itself down?
Its annoying as hell.

That's what Cockbutter reports as well. I haven't had a problem with it myself...yet.

Since it's open source, maybe Microsoft decided to help?

Yea, they use BugZilla for it, not sure of the link though. Is your system 64-bit? Vista?

I'm on Vista (32 bit) and haven't had a problem with it.

I don't use my RAM monitor anymore since getting my new PC so I can't tell if it's using more than it normally does.

Ctrl+Alt+Delete, Click the Processes tab, go to "View...Columns" and select the "Virtual Memory Size". That, plus your RAM is the true memory use.

I have a feeling that Vista 64-bit may be the culprit. My W2K Server, WinXP Home, and WinXP Professional system (all 32-bit) don't have any problem with it.

Also, you can download the 3.0.4 version here, however that it considerably older. It will patch it in the meantime though.

I have 32 bit Vista.
And i re-downloaded 3.0.8 from filehippo.com.

I checked my RAM usage when FF crashed last, and FF was taking up 600MB.

^Yea. I just checked, mines at 400 MB. I do have 10 tabs open, three of which have flash players in them. The 400 MB counts virtual memory in it.

I haven't had any problem though. 400 MB isn't much compared to my RAM, but it's insane for a web browser.

Do you know of any browsers that take up very little RAM?

Gag... IE takes up little.

According to my recent browser comparison I'm working on:

1. [25.13 MB] Opera 9
2. [26.16 MB] Internet Explorer 6*
3. [41.74 MB] Safari 4
4. [47.09 MB] Firefox 3
5. [85.75 MB] Chrome 1**

Opera is the best with memory usage. IE6 was penalized 20MB for it's integrated portions in Windows. The values are a fresh start.

However the best at managing the memory is:
1. [39.41%] Firefox 3
2. [55.68%] Chrome 1
3. [57.86%] Internet Explorer 6*
4. [75.71%] Safari 4
5. [86.23%] Opera 9

Top one being the best.

I dont have an option for "Virtual Memory Size." I tried "Virtualization" but that wasnt the one. There are no others for virtual anything.

Under the column "Memory (Private Working Set)" Firefox is using 111MB, with 6 tabs open.

lol, and so it should be! I hate the fact that IE comes as standard on windows.

Yeah, IE is shovelware. I call it that because farmers shovel shit, and IE=shit. Actually, IE=an overturned dump trunk full of shit on a hot August day.
