I'm assisting a company with a large government project servicing a few hundred custom designed audio/video units and need to buy parts for them. Deciding to try a company I've dealt with many times over the past 8 years, I went looking for IDE cables and a few other computer parts. The guy told me that they only had short grey flat IDE cables and none of the longer yellow ones I was looking for. An alternative was round bundled IDE cables which are a little more expensive but ideal for the job. The store had 40 of them in stock so I took two to see how they fit and also get the project managers approval. Everyone was happy and I managed to get the price down from $15 to $5. The next day I went to pay for them and purchase a few other parts to test; such as fans and thumb drives. The 38 cables would be delivered later that day. The box which arrived contained yellow flat IDE cables which were too long. Some investimagations were needed. Initially the online stock list only showed short grey flat IDE and three different sized round cables. The following day I made the purchase and received the wrong cables. When checking the website again I see that the extra long IDE cables were now newly listed but the cables I want are not. Clicking the link in a sent items email for the round yellow cables opens a web page stating they are now a discontinued item. So I was shafted and this guy made a profit of about $80 in one purchase from me of cables I cannot really use. But he now has the honor of missing out on orders for 600 cables, 1200 slim internal DVD burners, 10,000 spacers (stand-offs), thousands of header jumpers, cable ties and spiral wraps, many hundred fans and thumb drives and so on. Major fail for him... |

I thought he was simply maintaining his professionalism. Perhaps his calm was due to contemplating several courses of action to gain the most from the deal? I'll not push it. Instead, I'll wait for an opportunity to get him back. Does anyone have a need for 38 flat 80cm IDE cables? Maybe I'll try ebay. |
