if sung to different music.
I know that it's all opinion, but mine's the only one that counts (to me).
I despise Lady Gaga. Paparazzi has been one of my most hated songs of the year...

Reminds me of Evanescence. Probably because they're both female and the music kicks.

Some more awesomely odd remixes:

Taylor Swift

Nirvana

Metallica

More Gaga

Justin Bieber

More Taylor Swift

Ozzy

ABBAMember Added Image

The Bee Gees (3:37 I busted out laughing...)

Conway Motherfucking Twitty

Beyonce

Katy Perry

Jonas Brothers

A lot of these cracked me up, but some I will be converting to MP3 so I can put them on my phone and MP3 player. Some sound awesome.

The guy who does these is Andy Rehfeldt. He does all the instruments, and some of the vocals. Awesome artist.

Just thought I'd share.

Related revelation: any song can be turned into cheesy 80s pop rock if you add an extra chorus to the end and modulate a half-step up. It's so terribly overdone but no one ever notices.

AE, please give me some example songs of "modulate a half step up?" so I may evaluate the mathematical structure. I am intrigued by your formula. Thanks.

Dodge, that first one sounds like Gwen Stefani and you're definitely a metalhead.

Basically, it's a keychange you use at the end of a song. If it's in C, you go up to C#, etc.

The only example I can think of right now is the end of Livin' on a Prayer.

Thank you. I will be investigating this. I have been studying the structure of music and music theory recently.

All of these made me shit a brick becuase of how awesome they are. Three exeptions though, Beiber, Conway and ABBA were the only ones that blew. Gaga Polka was sweetness. Also for some reason I really dug Halo but Beyonce.
Also Dodge if you could be so kind as to send me a few of the songs when you convert them I would muchly appreciate it, can you send Taylor, Nirvana, Metallica, Gaga, Ozzy, Beyonce and Katy?

If you're interested in the math behind music, you should read up on harmonics if you haven't already, it's pretty interesting and explains a lot about why certain intervals sound pleasing. Also, the 12 tone chromatic scale that western music is based on is formed using the numbers 440 and the 12th root of 2.

You're into trying to get musical notation from mathemaical equations aren't you AE + Overlord?

Music is a lot cooler when you can apply the same logic you use in math and science to it.

Interesting you should mention this. I had a sadistic Differential Equations teacher in college that liked to assign special projects (as if we weren't busy enough carrying 18 hours of science classes) and looking at musical harmonics was one of those projects.

If you're interested, look up the "Devil's Note". If you look at the frequencies of the tones mathematically you see why it clashes. I don't know why but reminds me of the tension "bounces" suspension bridges get when they rip themselves apart. :O

I do now... Thanks!

Check this one out...
It's called 'Ranger of the Graveyard Underworld'.
Sweet lyrics.

No video, but I had the MP3 and uploaded to Mediafire juss 4 u.
LINK

Everyone should give it a listen. Tell me it's not epic.

I'm converting the rest now...

Overlord and AE, you're both such geeks.
But I love that about you.

Just to be clear, I haven't checked the frequencies yet, but I'm looking at the Devil's Note (I've never heard it called that until now, but I'm familiar with it as the tritone) in relation to it's respective tonic, correct? Like comparing the frequencies of C and F#?

Okay, from what I've gathered on a piece of notebook paper, using C and F# as an example, C harmonizes the following (approximately), in order of prominence:

C G E B♭

Or a C7 chord.

F# harmonizes:

F# C# B♭ E

Or an F#7 chord.

Two of the notes are shared, but two are shifted a half step, one flatted and one sharped, so in respect to C, it would look like:
C G E B♭
C# G E B♭

So I guess the dissonance would be caused by those notes so close together sounding simultaneously, or possibly because those two notes are moving in opposite directions. Just a stab in the dark.

The example I learned of the Devil's note is E and A#. That would be 6 half steps from the root. In your example you the definition is:
Quote:
main interval of dissonance in Western harmony
. That is exactly how Differential Equations would describe it mathematically.

***CORRECTION I DIDN'T COUNT RIGHT AND SAID IT WAS 5 HALF STEPS WHEN IT IS 6. THAT'S WHAT I GET FOR COUNTING USING A BASS NECK INSTEAD OF A PIANO****

Your article is describing it differently than I learned it. I find it more helpful to convert everything mathematically to half steps and count that way. It reduces every relationship to a simple formula. All I have to do is remember one combo and I can derive the rest. For example, I always remember the C chord, the C key, the C scale and it's relative A minor scale. From those, I can mathematically derive all the rest. I can create the circle of fifths and all chords within a key the same way.

E and A# is also 6 half steps though. E F F# G G# A A#

It's also worth noting that the tritone is located both halfway down the chromatic scale and halfway through the circle of fifths.

Yes, you are correct. I counted wrong. I used a bass neck to count instead of a piano and forgot the G#. That is an interesting observation about the circle of fifths.

I keep a notebook of all of my interesting discoveries for music. This will be added to it. I struggle with the artistic side of my brain when it comes to music. It is always easier to use the technical side first.
