Toasty SysOp Level 40 Posts: 7,388 Submissions: 227 ![]() | - The GD Library wasn't functioning Prevents any of the images on the site from displaying (can't be resized or watermarked automatically). This also affects avatars. - 500 Server Errors regarding bad image libraries Prevented images on the site not handled with the GD Library from displaying. - PHP.INI configuration not taking effect Causes non-detrimental errors to be exposed to the user, which is both a security problem, as well as unsightly. - .htaccess rewrites not functioning correctly Causes pages that exist to come up as a 404, also harming page rank of the site. - SSH Credentials and Permissions incorrect Cannot restart the remote server(s) to apply new configuration settings. Also hard to get in and make changes. There's more, but I'll post them if I think of them. |

Production mode servers never expose errors, and ignore minor conventions in code (like how headers are sent to the browser). Development ones, on the other hand, send even the most minor error to the user. |

Toasty SysOp Level 40 Posts: 7,388 Submissions: 227 ![]() | Well, the server is ran by a hosting company. I personally don't have too much flexibility over the configuration, and if I can't seem to get them ironed out (when I have more time to do so), then I'll be forced to cancel the hosting and use the funds elsewhere. |
