I'm working on the server -- all pages will return to normal within the hour.

The server configuration was updated several months ago, but I had to revert it due to poor performance. The new server used a differently structured XML file for the configuration, which indeed worked for the older version (which I'm using now) -- but I had to trick the versioning into using it.

Well, at least it worked until the other day when it fucked it up and I lost a couple domains for a few days. I'm in the process of redoing the configuration right now for all of the sites, including rewrites. YN should be done, however if you notice any issues loading a page, just hit back and try again -- I'm going to have to reset the server software ~20 times to get all the changes worked through.

Oh so it has nothing to do with the actual design of the site?

No, it has nothing to do with the design of the site. Just some functions within the server werent running smoothly.

As you can see with several URLs on the site, they don't fit the standard URL formfactor that's typical. The "actual" URL to this topic is this:

http://www.youn00b.com/forum.html?cid=0&tid=1232611458&mode=view

But for a few reasons I have that hidden:

- It's unsightly and hard to retype, when needed.
- More work goes into pages because some browsers have problems parsing an ampersand "&" and instead you have to do the HTML Entities code for it, even in URLs...This avoids that problem.
- Search engines (such as Google and Yahoo) give better pagerank to static pages, whereas this page is truly dynamic. By getting rid of the .PHP extension, then removing the usual telltale signs (?, &, and =), it makes it harder for the search engine to identify as dynamic, thus rewarding the site with better search engine rankings.

Well, when I switched from Version 2.6b1 to Version 2.5 of my server software, the configuration file had extra fields in it -- this caused me to lose a few virtual hosts (I.E. sites)...and also screwed up some of my URL rewrite rules, causing a few odd page errors (I also suspect this caused some of the 500-code errors)...So I deleted the configuration, and re-did it all from scratch. This made sure the log file was "perfect" for the version of software -- then I later upgraded to Version 2.6 of the server from the clean file, preventing any redundancies or omissions that may have occurred in the configuration file.

P.S. You asked.

No -3 for me. I dont do web design. But I know the hell BA goes thru for us. I'd love to learn to help BA, but truthfully I'm not smart enough to be any good at it.

Same man.

I only just realised that a 'code' could be made up of numbers instead of letters.

And you havent lost any cred.
