Submissions
Q: My submission count dropped recently, why?
A: On occasion we do a resynchronization to our database. Your submission count may not always reflect your actual submission count, as the resources required to do this on every account load is rather high. When these resyncs occur, submission count become accurate again.

Q: Why does YouN00B use YouTUBE videos?
A: Because videos are bandwidth expensive, and due to the lack of possession of a full server cluster, we cannot provide videos at a reasonable speed. YouTube allows easy use of their videos, and even offers an API for integration into different sites. Think of YouN00b as a sort of "channel" on YouTube.

Q: Are the ratings here reflected on YouTube? Are the ratings on YouTube shown here?
A: No. The rating systems between the sites are completely independent. (If ya know what I mean).

Q: I can't seem to get a video to work right. Why?
A: It is possible that you are posting the entire link to the page. Our Site Help page explains how to add them a little better.

Q: Why doesn't YouN00b support Break.com, or other video sites?
A: Although we plan to integrate better with other video sites in the future, the complexities of integration and delivery -- while maintaining legal compliance -- isn't an easy task.

Q: Why are their "Google Ads" on the videos?
A: We understand that these are annoying, however YouN00b does not have any control over the ads displayed on these videos. These are from YouTube itself. Although using their API may circumvent these issues, we simply allow them to exist as a "thanks" for letting us link to their content.

Q: Can I get an image without the YouN00b logo on it?
Sorry, we do not offer the images as a white label format. We use the tagged images for several purposes; advertising, source tracking, and accreditation are among the top reasons.

Q: An image was posted that I made -- but I never posted it!
A: If you own the legal copyright to the image, please see our Legal page for information of filing a DMCA complaint with our company. It may be easier to simply use the Contact Us link to rectify these situations.

Profiles

Q: A song on a profile violates a copyright!
A: These files are handled externally. Please use the Contact Us link and include the page(s) that the file appears on. We will provide a page that the file originated from so that you may seek legal remedy from that company.

General

Q: How many pages are on YouN00b?
A: We are at currently just under 2,500 pages including forum topics and submissions.

Q: I heard that this site is unhackable, is this true?
A: Absolutely not. There is no such thing as a lock that cannot be picked. While we are very security minded, issues can appear here and there and are addressed as soon as possible. Users are encouraged to "test" the site, however under the "Undesirable executable condition" clause of our legal agreement, all such findings must be reported to the site, and not shared with other members.

Q: What information is logged while visiting this site?
A: Generally speaking: IP address, page requests, browser and OS types, javascript support, and referrer pages.

Q: I used the same password here as I did on another site, and I was hacked! Did you give my password out?
A: YouN00b uses industry standard MD5 encryption with a salt to prevent attacks using a rainbow table. YouN00b will not store your password in plain text at any time, and will never request your password at any time.

Q: I hear cookie stealing is impossible on this site. Is this true?
A: For the most part, yes. Persons on the same local network as you can still theoretically steal your cookies and use your account, however since the WAN cookie stealing issue has been eliminated the risk is near nonexistant.

Q: I keep getting logged out!
A: This is possible with some ISPs, especially America Online (or users of their AOL Browser). In the future we plan to implement a paranoia setting to control the sessions monitoring of the site. By reducing this value, you may notice you will stay logged in -- however this exposes you to a security threat. We do recommend you change your browser to Firefox for the best experience on YouN00b.

Q: I cannot login! Did my account get removed?
A: On rare occasions, accounts that are inactive will be removed to help keep the database as small as possible. You may need to recreate your account. If this fails, and you get a "Username taken" error, use the contact us link and we may reset your password.

Q: Wait! How can you reset an encrypted password?
A: We use a random number/letter combination, encrypt it, and add it to our users database. We then provide you the plain text password which will then be encrypted when you log in. The process is secure and seamless.

Q: Okay, say a hacker gets into the site. What information of mine is at risk?
A: Anything you provide to the site. Generally speaking, the only thing a normal user cannot get into is your messages -- a hacker may be able to. If you ever decide to exchange personal information through messages, you might consider deleting the information later to protect yourself should this unlikely event occur.

Q: Why aren't there ever any guests online?
A: The system was disabled to speed up the site. YN2 will have this system enabled.

Q: When is YN2 being released?
A: The forecast is changing rapidly, we cannot predict without any reasonable margin of error, when it will be out. Rest assured that we plan on making sure that the site is usable and secure before making it publicly usable.

Q: I posted an article on another site, can I repost it here?
A: Depends on the legal portion of their site. A great example would be "eggs" from "rotteneggs". These cannot be reposted here without first being removed from RE. The legal portion of that site says basically "what you post is ours". YouN00b will remove violations to this policy. An exception is when you repost a document with large changes to it, which circumvents most legal provisions written into a site.

Any questions, add them and I'll add them to this post.

Not for me, unfortunatly. Can you be banned from submissions and from the forums?

Not currently, it's either forum, or the site as a whole. We had the option for submission bans, which YN2 will again support with more depth.

Try to keep YN2 questions in the integration thread, this is more tailored towards YN1.

Nobody has asked that, but I know some people assume it. I just wanted to make sure that was out there for people to read.

Thanks.
