 Toasty SysOp Level 40 Posts: 7,388 Submissions: 227  | Well, the title here may be a little bit of a stretch -- or a far stretch, but we're trying anyway. Many of you may remember earlier in the year how there was a Free Rice competition. This competition raised enough rice to feed two families of four, for an entire day (three meals). That's 152,040 grains of rice! To help out now, YouN00bs servers, as well as my personal computer runs an application called "Folding@Home", which uses your computer processor in a distributed fashion to help map out proteins in the human body. With this data, researchers at Standford University can help lead to a cure for cancer, as well as learn other information about ourselves. People who are interested in running this software can download it here. I will be trying to get a team going for others wishing to keep tabs on what they have done. Along with what we have done so far, we're going to run another Free Rice competition. How it works: Members will receive their member level x Total Grain Donation. How to prove it: Post a full-screen screenshot of your daily total (one screenshot per day), and put your username on the screenshot. How to get started: Click: FreeRice to get started. Please remember to include a full screenshot (includes start menu, etc) and include your username. It can be as simple as opening up Notepad and including your name with the image. teh1337's image above is a good example of a different way to accomplish this, as long as your AIM (or other messenger's username) also matches your YN account name, or is published on the site. The full screen shot helps us validate the amount you have stated that you have given, as well as prevents a Google query for an image and simply posting that. |
