Server Operating Systems For those that don't realize it, Windows Server operating systems are derivatives of Microsoft's general OS line of products. Going back some time: Windows NT Server - Based loosely off of Windows 3.1 ![]() Windows 2000 Server is based off of Windows 2000 Windows Server 2003 is based off of Windows XP (and is YN's webserver platform) Windows Server 2003 R2 is still based off of Windows XP Windows Server 2008 is based off of Windows Vista Windows Server 2008 R2 is based off of Windows 7 Windows Vista I have always compared Vista to "a pretty stage that is so eccentrically detailed, that the performers you came to see can't even perform, because they're tripping all over themselves. Most people charge that "Vista is fine, it's the User Access Control that people complain about", while this is true, I've left it on the entire time I used Vista...Despite the annoyance, it truly was a good security enhancement. I'm talking more of incompatibilities, speed, security, and reliability. These aren't items typically prevalent to most people who buy an OS for it's "appeal."
